Dickson Productions and the Center for Texas Music History are very excited to have Joe Ely as the 2016 MusicFest Tribute Artist! This January, artists and fans alike will gather together in Steamboat to honor the many incredible accomplishments of prolific songwriter and Texas native Joe Ely. This tribute concert will give other artists the unique opportunity to express how Ely’s music has influenced them personally and professionally as they perform their own renditions of his music. Joe Ely’s boundary-blurring blend of rock, country, blues and folk defines the sound that is “Texas music.” Over a career that spans some four decades, he’s been embraced as a kindred spirit by artists as diverse as Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt and the Clash. In addition to being honored as the MusicFest tribute artist, Ely was pronounced the 2016 Official Texas State Musician and was named as a 2016 Hall of Fame Honoree by the Texas Heritage Songwriters’ Association. The Tribute will be followed by a very special acoustic performance by Mr. Ely himself. Past honorees include Robert Earl Keen, Jr., Dean Dillon, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Billy Joe Shaver, Lee Ann Womack, Guy Clark, Johnny Gimble, Leon Russell, Kevin Welch, Radney Foster, Rodney Crowell, Townes Van Zandt, and Lost Gonzo Band.
