Breaking the Ice with Parker McCollum

Posted by Sarah Hearne Category: News

Q: Who are you and where are you from?
A: My name is Parker McCollum and I am from Conroe, TX.

Q: You recently released an album comprised of 3 different parts, released at 3 different times. What was the reason for releasing your album that way?
A: I released my new album Probably Wrong in 3 sessions in an effort to find a happy medium with consumer and artist. The consumer gets the music in smaller doses, which seems to be what people want these days, while still allowing me to make a full album.

Q: We hear you’re looking for the love of your life: what do you look for in a girl?
A: I am not currently looking for the love of my life; I have already had her and I walked away to ensure that all of my time and energy was spent on reaching my personal and career goals. I also walked away so that I could write heart-break love songs again. But I look for the smile first. If she has the perfect smile, I’m in for a date, and then she’s gotta have a really, really good heart. And if she has those two things, she probably doesn’t know who Rodney Crowell is, so I have an easy escape plan.

Q: What is something you hate but wish you loved?
A: I hate running long distance with a passion.

Q: 2017 was your first time at MusicFest; what was your favorite part?
A: My favorite part of my first year at MusicFest was kicking off the beginning of the festival on the Outdoor Stage when it was -2 degrees outside and we still had a huge crowd. I will tell that story for as long as I live.

Q: So, who is Lucy, anyway?
A: The answer to that question lies at the end of the song. Listen closely.

Q: What is your worst habit?
A: My worst habit is my phone. I’m on it way too much. I make myself put it on airplane-mode and put it out of sight when I want to either practice or just have some chill time.

Q: What is your signature drink?
A: My signature drink has been a Budweiser Chilada. I’m actually drinking one right now. They put me straight to sleep.

Q: What is something you do before taking the stage?
A: Right before I go on stage, I always say, “Why don’t we have any kind of cool intro song or something?” We still don’t have one.

Q: What is your spirit animal and why?
A: My spirit animal is a turtledog. It’s a turtle and a dog put together. A turtle because I like to chill sometimes and a dog because I’m way too nice and I get hyper a lot.

Q: How’s life?
A: Life, right now, is great. Whole album is almost out, anddddd we just had a blowout ‘cause Jake hit the curb. I take that back.

Q: What are three things you can’t live without?
A: The three things I cannot live without include my family, food and water.

Q: If you could ask another artist any question what would it be?
A: If I could ask another artist any question, I’d ask Red Shahan what he says right before, “Nobody cares for coyotes.”

Q: Finish this sentence: It’s not a party until…
A: Well my answer is inappropriate for this questionnaire.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who is coming to MusicFest for the first time?
A: My advice to someone coming to MusicFest for the first time would be to make sure you do not try to walk back to your condo at night while drunk in -20 degree weather. It is very dangerous.
